So you know that old saying that life it like a roller coaster meaning that all throughout your life whether you like it or not you will have ups and downs. Even though there are these twists and turns you should always try to do things that make you happy. I am not saying that you have to think big and try to go out there and change the world (which by all means if you want to give it a try, if you would like to). It can be the smallest simplest thing that you can do every day that makes you happy and smile. For example, look at adorable pictures of cats. Now, you may ask what does this have to do with food or cooking? Well I, at heart, am a very creative person and I need creativity in my life in some form or another. One way I try to stay creative and happy is through cooking.
I am by no means the world’s best cook, but that does not really matter because cooking and sharing food with others makes me happy. I learned the art of cooking from my absolutely wonderful mother who learned it from my amazing grandmother, and in turn I hope to one day share my knowledge and joy with my child.
Now you may ask, why now? If you loved cooking so much why do you need to get back into it. The truth is I recently got out of cooking because I moved across an ocean, and with that moved I left all my recipes and gadgets at home. Then I started exploring the Czech cuisine and eating out a lot. The result being, the money in my wallet decreased while my weight increased. This was not exactly what I had in mind; in truth I wanted the complete opposite effect.
So when did this change over happen (well it was more like an epiphany)? It was quite recently, and I really needed it. I love my new life in Prague, my friends, and my job, but like I said life is not always sunshine and flowers. I was feeling a blah (yes that would be the best way to describe my feelings). One night while sitting in the kitchen with my wonderful flat mate, Iveta, we had this long discussion about food. I mentioned how much I loved to cook and missed doing it with my mama (she is my awesome cooking buddy!). Iveta gave me her cookbooks (bad idea) and we quickly realized that we wanted to make everything we saw. Then Iveta had the most wonderful idea, one night each week we will cook together and learn Czech. I will teach Iveta to cook and she in return will teach me Czech!
Since then I have had this hunger to get back in the kitchen; since our little talk I have been exploring The Cooking Channel’s website religiously. And now I have decided that I will keep track of my new found cooking adventures. When I make something, I will share it on my blog. Along with the food I will also keep track of all the new Czech words I learn. This will be my little way of staying happy in my life!
Wish me luck!!
